The Eighth Grade Advanced Band meets daily and is comprised of students that have completed 6th and 7th grade band at Mattawan, or have transferred from other schools. The band performs at the holiday concert in December, the winter concert in February, and the spring concert in April.

In addition to these performances the eighth grade band has their second opportunity to perform at the MSBOA District XI Band and Orchestra festival in March where the band is critiqued on their performance and given a rating from 1 to 5, 1 being the highest. Students also have the option of performing at the District XI MSBOA Solo and Ensemble Festival in April. At this festival students are given the opportunity to perform up to three events, either a solo or an ensemble (two or more players.) Students will be critiqued by a judge and given a rating from 1-5, 1 being the highest rating. In addition to these performances the eighth grade band students will get their first taste of marching band in the fall by performing for the annual walk-a-thon fundraiser as well as at the football Homecoming game. In the spring the band will perform in the annual Mattawan Memorial Day Parade held on Memorial Day Monday. These performances are a great introduction to marching band and for their entry into the Mattawan Marching Band in high school.

The eighth grade uniform consists of black pants (no skirts, leggings, or yoga pants), black socks, black shoes, a plain white shirt (dress or tshirt) and a blue Mattawan Bands blazer that is provided to the students.

Parents are encouraged to attend any or all of these events to support their children and the Mattawan Bands.
