Students enter this class after completing the sixth grade year of Beginning Band. The Seventh Grade Intermediate Band is split into two bands in order for students to receive more individualized help. The bands rehearse separately on a daily basis, however, come together to perform for the holiday concert in December, the winter concert in February, and the spring concert in April.

In addition to these performances the seventh grade band has their first opportunity to perform at the MSBOA District XI Band and Orchestra festival in March. This festival allows the students to perform three pieces of music for a panel of judges as well as sight read in front of an additional judge. The band is then critiqued on their performance and given a rating from 1 to 5, 1 being the highest. Students also have the option of performing at the District XI MSBOA Solo and Ensemble Festival in April. At this festival students are given the opportunity to perform up to three events, either a solo or an ensemble (two or more players.) Students will be critiqued by a judge and given a rating from 1-5, 1 being the highest rating.

The seventh grade uniform consists of black pants (no skirts, leggings, or yoga pants), black socks, black shoes, and a blue Mattawan Bands polo that is provided to the students.

Parents are encouraged to attend any or all of these events to support their children and the Mattawan Bands.
